About Sorrentino's

Sorrentino's started off as Sorrento. The first Sorrento restaurant location was opened in 1979 in the Castle Downs area of Edmonton. This venture began with very limited financial resources, but lots of "sweat" equity. In fact, for the first three years of operation, Sorrento didn't make a profit. These were difficult years, but through hard work, perseverance and personal sacrifice, the business survived. In 1986, the first Sorrentino's opened and is still in operation today at 10844 - 95 Street.

Maurizio Saccomanno and Carmelo Rago, Father-In-Law and Son-In-Law, made a good team. Their skills and knowledge complemented each other. Maurizio looked after the "back of the house", and Carmelo was responsible for the "front of the house." Both were fully committed to uncompromising food quality and 100% guest satisfaction. Although he is no longer with us, Maurizio Saccomanno's legacy lives on in Sorrentino's. His ethics and skills continue to guide us toward growth and prosperity.

The Sorrento name has evolved into Sorrentino's. The name has changed to make it a national trademark, and thus make it easier to expand. We hope that the spirit and inspiration of the original Sorrento will eventually spread across Canada as Sorrentino's continues to grow.

Today the proprietors of the Sorrentino's name and concept are Carmelo Rago and Maria Saccomanno.

Carmelo is the President and CEO of Sorrentino's and is primarily responsible for the growth and profitability of the company. Carmelo is a "hands-on" owner. He likes to visit each Sorrentino's to ensure operations, and to talk with the managers, staff and guests.

Mrs. Maria Saccomanno is the wife of the late Maurizio Saccomanno.
